27 years of India winning the World Cup

Founder-editor of Wisden Cricket Monthly David Edward Frith in a rather blunt analysis said teams like India should not be allowed to compete in a prestigious event like the World Cup. He, however declared that if India did lift the World Cup, he would eat his words. After India’s triumph, India’s team manager PR Mansingh wrote to Frith: “Now what do you have to say, Mr David?” Frith replied through the September 1983 edition of Wisden carrying Mansingh’s letter and a photograph of himself with a piece of paper in his mouth with the caption: ‘India made me eat my words’.
